Community Activities

Carnival

One of the largest fundraisers of the year is the annual St. George Carnival. Every August, the grounds of St. George Church are filled with carnival rides, games, and food. The Carnival attracts not only parishioners of St. George Church, but visitors from all over the state of CT. Members of  K of C Council 3928, their families, and parishioners of Saint George Church pool their efforts and talents in order to put on the Carnival each summer. In addition to food, other areas of entertainment include the White Elephant tag sale, and the Cake Booth where patrons can take a chance at winning some tasty treats provided by members of the parish. Tootsie Roll Drive

Every fall the Knights of Columbus Council 3928 supports the local community by holding its Tootsie Roll Drive. This nationwide drive involving all K of C Councils is specifically designed to benefit citizens with intellectual disabilities. In Guilford, the K of C Council 3928 has chosen to support the SARAH Foundation. SARAH provides programs and services for children and adults with disabilities who live in Connecticut. During a typical Tootsie Roll Drive, council volunteers give out tootsie rolls for free in front of local businesses and St. George Church for an entire weekend. Passersby are greeted, given a tootsie roll and encouraged to donate to SARAH, but no donation is required. The Tootsie Roll Drive publicizes the good work that this council does and continues to do throughout the year in the local community. Read More
